BYLINE · SHOPIFY BLOG GUIDES
Add a Shopify blog author without another staff account.
Byline lets you credit a contributor on your existing Shopify blog without giving that person a store login. An author profile is attribution; a staff account is access.
Why the native author menu can get in the way
Shopify’s native blog author picker uses eligible store users. That can be awkward when the person who publishes a post is not its writer, especially with guest contributors or a small team. Adding a user just to credit an article mixes two different needs.
Byline creates reusable author profiles and assigns them to your existing posts. Your team still writes, reviews and publishes the content through its normal process.
How attribution works with Byline
- Create a profile with the contributor’s name, photo, role and short biography.
- Assign that profile to a post, selected posts or posts matching your filters.
- If another person reviewed the article, add that distinct person as its reviewer.
- Add the Byline author-card app block to a supported blog article template, then preview the result.
Author attribution and store access
A Byline profile does not let a writer log into Shopify, edit a draft or publish an article. If they need those permissions, handle their account and access separately in Shopify. Byline supports one primary author and one optional reviewer per post.
Can I keep my existing blog?
Yes. Byline works with your existing Shopify blog posts. It is not a replacement blog editor. You can customize the card’s layout, colors and photo shape and link a contributor’s name to a public profile page.
Published author names remain when paid access ends; the paid cards and new editing are disabled. Restore a saved original name by explicitly unassigning the post while editing is available.
